India | Huma Lung Foundation launches radio advisories on air pollution and health

What if, along with the traffic and weather updates on the radio, you could also learn about the current air quality and how it affects your health? A radio station in Chennai, India, is doing just that.

In a first-of-its-kind effort, Huma Lung Foundation (HLF) in collaboration with Fever FM 91.9 are providing “Air Check” – air quality and health updates to the city of Chennai through its popular daily show Lose Control and on HLF’s website. Modeled around the traffic updates on radio, “Air Check” gives information about the Air Quality Index (AQI) of the locations in the city that have Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) monitors. It also provides health advisories for the citizens, with a special focus on vulnerable populations like children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with chronic lung or heart diseases.

Listen to the first ever “Air Check” on Fever 91.9 FM:

Huma Lung Foundation (HLF), led by renowned pulmonologist Dr. Hisamuddin Papa and a member of Healthy Energy Initiative – India, has designed the health advisories of the AQI and Air Check. “Air pollution is one of the leading causes of deaths in the world. Citizens have a right to know the air quality in their city not only to protect themselves but also to act to improve the situation”, said Dr. Papa.

HLF is also launching a website www.humalungfoundation.com for more information on air pollution, its sources and advisories for citizens including vulnerable populations like pregnant women, elderly or people with chronic lung or heart diseases.
