India | After 10 years, 1,320-MW coal plant plan cancelled

A 1320-MW coal plant proposal in Cudallore, India was cancelled after the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has said that it is in a “power surplus” and therefore is not interested anymore in Cuddalore Powergen’s project.

In her email to the Healthy Energy Initiative, Shweta Narayan, coordinator of the SIPCOT Community Environmental Monitors which is the Initiative’s partner in India, describes this as a “result of almost a decade-long fight” and a “demonstration of Cuddalore people’s determination to fight toxic plans in the region.”
